The TrustFuels Tesla Give-away!

For the last few years, I've been railing against the crooks, criminals, and clowns of DCTech and you know what? I think I got it wrong. I should learn from the insane clown posse that is DCTech and create my own Blue Ocean version of a Wolves of Startupland Startup. [caption id="attachment_77580" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] DC Tech Meetup[/caption] That's why I looked at two of DCTech's most "successful" startups. That is if success is to be judged by PR and income for the founders and not building a valuable company. With this in mind, I decided to create my own version of a DCTech success. First, let's look at the companies from which I modeled my new company, TrustFuels: Trustify - A company that raised $5 Million and spent approximately 30% of the money to deliver their product. The company is wildly unprofitable, hemorrhaging investor cash and yet the criminals who run the company, Cruella Jen Mellon and her husband Prison Tatted Danny Boice (Remember when he wasted investor money to sue me for telling the truth and then ran away with his tail between his stubby legs? That was fun!) live like Royalty. This company is reported nearly out of cash and needs to raise more...

Trustify High-Level Executive Turnover Screams Trouble

The Trustify High-Level Executive Turnover continues as a Senior Vice President with almost 3 years of tenor, leaves the firm. Here's an early slide adjusted to reflect turnover, used to raise money by Lying Thieving Danny Boice and Cruella Jennifer Mellon. These two Clownish Crooks are having trouble keeping the wheels on the Trustify Bus. This month, they add another Senior Vice President, Martin Garcia, to the list of potential cooperating government witnesses in an investigation into criminal activity and fraud. Take note of the Team Slide that Trustify used to raise money (see below). Due to Trustify High-Level Executive Turnover, this slide shows only three criminals left standing, Danny Boice and his wife Jennifer Mellon and one other loser. What's wrong Matt DeLeon? Matt Baby, are you as crooked as your bosses or are you just otherwise unemployable? Most of the folks who left this dumpster fire left for ethical reasons. But you're still there? Are you a crook too? When the authorities come in to bust this scam...

March Dumpster Fire Trustify Update

Things must not be going well at the old Dumpster Fire Trustify. Money must be running low. Cracks are beginning to show. For instance, Harvard Boy Danny Boice and Cruella Puppy Coat Wearing Jen Mellon didn't take their usual private jet to South by Southwest. They flew commercial with the unwashed. Well, not quite the unwashed. They didn't fly coach. The spent their investor money to upgrade to business!  It must be nice to travel in style on investor money when the company is hemorrhaging cash. It must be nice living off of investor money when you rarely show up for work and when you do morale at work is even lower than the normal low. Then there is the fact that many state regulatory agencies are cracking down on Dumpster Fire Trustify for operating without a Private Investigative license. Arizona has reportedly issued Dumpster Fire Trustify a cease and desist of order. Shutting them down in that state. In Virginia where Dumpster Fire Trustify is located, they were fined a mere $2500 for operating without a license and are now in the process of acquiring a license. Employees are leaving. Morale completely sucks and the two clowns still spend and fiddle while Rome burns. And, a little birdy tells me...

Wolves of Startupland

Who Was The Worst Wolf of Startupland in 2017

Picking the Worst of the Worst Wolf of Startupland is a difficult choice but let's lay those choices out for you all and see what you think. Last year I started a series called Wolves of Startupland. The goal was to alert potential investors and employees of the possible risks of investing time, money and reputation in personality led startups. To qualify as a Wolf of Startupland one must at the very least: Have a very casual relationship with truth To repeatedly use other people's money irresponsibly To ignore the norms of corporate disclosure, transparency To have damaged investors, employees and the startup ecosystem through repeated acts of fraud or gross negligence A Wolf of Startupland is not someone who starts a company one time and through gross incompetence and/or a lack of commitment fails miserably.  By way of example, Chris MacDonald of HugeFan is a fool and not a Wolf of Startupland, the clowns at Spinnakr are incompetent wantrepeneurs and not Wolves. A true Wolf of Startupland must be a repeat offender, damage multiple people and they are likely to continue to inflict damage on the startup ecosystem. Lastly, I know many people of faith. True believers tend to be more trustworthy. People rightly assume that...

Mr Cranky Startup Technology Resolution

Mr. Cranky’s DCTech Resolutions 2018

Are you ready for Mr. Cranky's DCTech Resolutions, 2018 edition? Last year, Mr. Cranky's DCTech Resolutions I made my typical Glass Half Empty, preponderance of prescient predigious predictions(see it here).  This year I'm going to try and be a little less Mr. Cranky DCTech Resolutions and a little more Mr. Glass Half Full, even though I paid for full glass at inflated Buojee bar prices (Okay Old Fart (OF), just for you...

3rd Not Quite Annual 100 #DCTech Companies I Don’t Hate

Back in April of 2014, Mr. Steven Overly, formerly of the Washington Post, presently of Politico challenged me to name 100 DC Tech companies that I did not hate.  Well, I came up with only 42. Last year, I tried it again and still couldn't come up with 100. Well this year, I'm closer. I've come up with, 78 companies I don't hate. Not being listed doesn't mean I hate your company. It only means that I don't know of or forgot to mention your company. In the interest of specificity, I've included 9 companies that  I do know of and didn't forget to list. That's the DC Tech companies I know that I don't Not Hate. The categories in this post include: The Hidden Gems - The companies that Technally DC, DCInno, Tech.co, and Nibletz have no clue exist and even armed with a GPS, seeing eye dog and sextant, they'd still never find them. The Special Gem - A special company that deserves extra attention The Realy Big Deals - The guys you build an ecosystem around The Companies I Don't Hate The Companies I Don't Not Hate The company I don't Hate or Not Hate but I know who they...

Mr Cranky Superhero Not

Mr Cranky Superhero? Not likely. I'm not Superman, Batman, the Tick, Antman, or even Under Dog. Although we share a motivation. What's that? For the umpteenth time I was asked, what did Danny Boice or what did Evan Burfield or Peter Noce (or Jay Noce or whatever the heck this miscreant is calling himself today) do to piss you off so much? And for the umpteenth time, my answer is, I have nothing against the person, it's their actions. It's the damage they do to others. It's the fact that they debase authentic startup entrepreneurs. It's the fact that they burn investors, which makes it more difficult for earnest, hard-working, honest entrepreneurs to raise money. It's the fact that they add so much friction to a process that is already difficult. It's not easy turning an unconventional thought into a high-value company without being tarnished with the turd-laden brush of the conmen wantrepreneurs. Take Jonathon Pirelli (JP) and his silly Lifefuels thing. Jonathon isn't evil, he just has an inflated self-image. He just makes promises he has no ability to keep. His ego keeps writing checks that his intellect and discipline have no ability to cash. He's burned other founders, many employees, and way too...
