The Definition of Transactional – DK Tenant Rep

Warning to all commercial landlords, according to DK, he isn't a landlord so he doesn't care if you get paid! In October, I spied a post on social media from DK about the great deal he got for one of his clients. His clients, in this case, were a cruel, crooked, wicked couple. If you read any of my posts, you might know them, Danny Boice and Jen Mellon of Trustify. If you haven't heard of these two and their dumpster fire of company, Trustify, just check out these Glassdoor reviews. In typical Mr. Cranky, delicate and sensitive style, I replied to his LinkedIn post on the Trustify Subject. I highlighted many of the problems with the company. Then Mr K contacted me on LinkedIn and respectfully asked me to remove my comment. And I did. See the transcript of the interchange below. October 30, 2018 DK 5:30 PM Connecting re: comments Hi Glen, Hope all is well - looks like we know a lot of the same people. FYI, I work hard at what I do and getting exposure is important to building our brand as a business. While I absolutely respect your dislike of Danny/Jen at Trustify, and perhaps you all have some history, I'd like to ask...

This Year in DCTech – 2018 edition

It's that time again. Time to review all the tremendous accomplishments of the most dynamic tech ecosystem south of Columbia Md, North of Springfield VA,  East of Gaithersburg MD and west of Annapolis. Yes, DCTech we're number 1 out of any city in the world with our exact lat/long coordinates! Yea us! Go Team DC! So let's get right to it. January - Was Action Packed!!!! Amazon Will Change Everything - Amazon announced they would hold a beauty contest to determine which town they will destroy by overloading local infrastructure, straining the already huge employment talent gap by bringing 50,000 new jobs parked in Amazon HQ2. DC is one of the "lucky" cities to make the short list (see post). Boice Is The Champion - Danny Boice wins the coveted Worst Wolf of Startupland Title. Making Shit Happen (As Long as Nothing Happening is the Definition of Happening) - Lots of good news from Jonathon Perrelli and LifeFuels...

Zombie Founder Danny Boice, dead man walking

The problem with Zombie's like Danny Boice is they don't know they're dead. Danny Boice, dead man walking. Danny's soon to be ex-wife and ex-retroactive Trustify founder Jen Mellon has left the building. This week her LinkedIn status went from presently employed at Trustify to ended employment in 2018. On LinkedIn for married co-founders of a dumpster fire, this is the Facebook relationship status equivalent of "it's complicated." In addition, according to a comment below, Ms. Mellon has removed every picture of her husband, Danny Boice from her facebook page. It appears she is trying to distance herself from the legal jeopardy of being a principal in a fraudelent enterprise. Call this phone number...

Open Letter To The Washingtonian Magazine

The December issue of the Washingtonian features a story titled “Meet Mr. Cranky.” While the story appears balanced, it is less than fair. The article ignores the groundwork and research that goes into my posts. For example with regards to Danny Boice and Trustify, I have interviewed well over 30 people including, former employees, former current employees, relatives of traumatized former employees, vendors, co-workers, partners, startup executives who shared office space with him in two separate accelerators and family members. These interviews cover Mr. Boice's employment with Trustify, Speek, and The College Board. The Washingtonian ignores the fact that I have 40 years of experience and training which includes years as a turn-around CEO employed by private equity investors to clean up messes created by irresponsible CEOs like Mr. Boice. The article ignores that I served as the President of a leading Proxy Advisory Firm, consulting to Institutional Investors on corporate governance matters regarding their publically traded portfolio companies. The article does not mention the fact that I have over a decade of formal training and experience as an executive coach, or that I am certified in personality and behavioral assessments. The article implies that I don't have the qualifications to assemble and analyze facts in...

The Washington Post Non-Washington Business Coverage

The Washington Post has been asleep at the wheel in terms of covering the Startup world of DC. Granted, the startup world of DC has been comatose for some time. But while there are criminals and thieves plying their craft in DC, The Washington Post, is mum. But on October 12, 2018, the Washington Post's, Antonia Noori Farzan, woke up and penned an article about a minor crook in the Washington Suburbs of Fall River, Massachusetts. A DC suburb if 353 miles and a 5 1/2 hour drive is a commute. Yes, the paper which barely covers what is happening in business in DC didn't miss an opportunity to cover the curious inconsequential case of the 23-year-old Mayor-Elect of Falls River. The article: Elected mayor at 23 in struggling Fall River, Mass., Jasiel F. Correia II had the makings of a rising star — until Thursday (see link) As the post reports, "early Thursday morning, federal agents arrested Correia on charges that he stole almost a quarter of a million dollars from seven people who had invested in his start-up." Yet when local DC-based startup Comunniclique founder Andy Powers was found guilty of bilking local investors out of over $10 million dollars (which by my...

Cockroaches and Hand Grenades

When I was a young man, my first job out of Sales and Sales Management, was National Sales Operations Manager, which basically meant I was the VP of Sales, executive assistant (National Sales Operations Manager is to the Executive Assistant to the VP of Sales as the Chief of Staff is the Executive Assistant to the CEO. Its title inflation). Now, this VP was a former senior manager at Xerox, a notorious hyper-political organization and this guy, let's call him Jeff because Jeff was and probably still is his name was a puppet master extraordinaire. He would take a circuitous path to any goal...

Andy Powers – Friend of Danny Boice & Fellow Criminal

On March 16, 2018, the Commonwealth of Virginia's State Corporation Commision (SCC) filed against Andrew Brent Powers (AKA Andy Powers) and his company Comunniclique (DBA CliqueAPI) alleging multiple violations of the Virginia Securities Act. On July 13 of that year, the courts found Andy Powers guilty of 108 violations of the Act. Powers was also was found guilty of failing to respond to a subpoena.  That basically means he's on the run and did not appear to defend himself. Originally CliqueAPI and Powers mounted an aggressive defense and then in April, Power's Attornies, The Aegis Law Group, filed (see filing) that they were withdrawing from counsel on this case. Did Powers run out of money to pay for representation or were his attorney's alarmed that he was not acting in good faith? It seems like from that time, Andy was non-responsive to the case. According to court records, Tom Bayly, a senior investigator with the SCC, Division of Securities and Retail Franchising testified that the Division received a complaint in the fall of 2016 from the accountant of one of  CommuniClique's (AKA Clique and Clique API) investors regarding several irregularities. Subsequent investigations found that Powers was reporting to prospective and existing investors in CommuniClique, that...

Sometimes I Have To Admit, #DCTech Isn’t So Bad

[caption id="attachment_60126" align="alignright" width="150"] Fake Grimlock holding a can of WhoopAss[/caption] When it comes to DCTech, ya'll, well, any of ya'll in DCTech who have ever read my screeds know that Mr. Cranky is a Glass Half Full kind of guy and that Half Full Glass is usually Half Full of Urine. Now, most of you are thinking that Mr. Cranky, is from New Jersey by way of Brooklyn before Brooklyn was as our President would say, "Infested," with hipsters, just used the word ya'll and you're wondering WTF so I'm going to tell you WFT, and TF is that the word, ya'll empowers me to say things like "Bless Your Heart," instead of the New Jerseyian equivalent which is, F$3K OFF! Hows that for some stream of consciousness bit spewing vomit (the first person to correctly diagram the proceeding sentences gets a free can of Mr. Cranky Driven Forward Whoopass as pictured here). Today I'm here to Praise DCTech and not to bury her. In the last 2 weeks, I've serendipitously managed to meet several DCTech Real Startup Founders. Here are companies that will make my next release of "100 DCTech Companies I Don't Hate." Nakul Manjal - Status Identity. provides powerful Multi-Factor Adaptive User Authentication by creating a...
